London & Area Neighbourhoods

Neighborhood

Sunningdale/Richmond Hill

Sunningdale is unlike any other housing development in London. You’ll feel the difference the moment you drive through the gates. Each neighbourhood phase will be planned and laid out carefully to ensure that it is aesthetically pleasing, safe and comfortable for homeowners. A handsome entrance, tree-lined streets, larger-than-average setbacks, restful green spaces and thoughtful traffic planning will create a peaceful upscale environment.

  • The Medway Valley offers a unique natural environment ideal for walking , hiking, jogging, cross-country skiing, and observing wildlife.
  • All cul-de-sac streets have landscaped islands.
  • Other recreational opportunities in the area include a 34 acre centrally located joint school/park campus.  The 21 acre park adjacent to both sites provides numerous recreational opportunities and serves as a community focal point.
  • Many home sites back onto mature treed areas, parks and open spaces, offering a level of privacy not found in most neighbourhoods.
  • A prestigious split street on the north side provides a center median greenbelt of up to 50’ in width creating a very elegant address.
  • Most homes face onto quiet side streets with limited traffic.
  • Traffic circles serve as landscape features and keep traffic moving smoothly.
  • Parkettes create an open, welcoming feeling as you arrive home. Great for playing catch or working on that soccer footwork too!
  • Along the main entry road, provision has been made for additional landscaping to enhance the look and feel of the neighbourhood.
  • One of the streets opens directly to the Medway Valley, allowing access to a future trail system to be developed by the City of London.

In the early 1930s, Colonel J. Gordon Thompson purchased a 100-acre farm three miles north of London and conceived the idea of turning it into a golf course.

Sunningdale Golf and Country Club quickly became one of the city’s most prestigious Clubs.  As the course expanded from 9 holes to 36, Thompson bought up surrounding land along the beautiful Medway River valley.  Today, Sunningdale's two 18-hole courses are complete (Stanley Thompson designed course, 1934; Robbie Robinson designed course, 1962 - both reinstated by Doug Carrick, 2002), but much of the adjacent land remains open.  The spectacular setting is just minutes from the Masonville Place and the Hyde Park Commercial areas, and a short drive from downtown London.

Under the guidance of Colonel Thompson’s grandson, Gordon R. Thompson, Corlon Properties Inc. a land development company, has begun a long-term venture focusing on development of those acquired 400 acres surrounding the Medway Valley and Sunningdale Golf & Country Club.  Over the coming years, Corlon plans to coordinate The Neighbourhoods of Sunningdale as a thoughtful and orderly development, with a primary focus on upscale custom homes.

The first phase of development began building in the summer of 2001.  Interest and demand for lots was high, resulting in the opening of a second stage in the fall of 2002.  In the spring of 2003, a third stage was opened surrounding a special school campus and park area, where a Catholic elementary school, St Catherine of Siena, opened in the fall of 2004.  Subsequent phases have been sold quickly and lots in Sunningdale West were released in 2008.
